Where to begin on a statement made by a Black man in 2016 that was - on so many levels - complete dumbassness? This guy has nothing on Donald Trump and his racist rhetoric; but on the other end of the insanity spectrum comes this guy, Tavis Smiley, who undermined 400-plus years of Black America's struggle to destroy the "slave mentality."
In a Time.com article, Tavis Smiley told a college student who asked if "black folk could ever find ourselves enslaved again?" Yes! Yes, this fool answers. Apparently, according to the article, he fears that America's Democracy has faltered so badly and that because Congress has neglected to do what they were sworn to do, that at some point it all could resort to a Constitutional Amendment that would reenact slavery. "If we don't get off this low road and make our way to higher ground." He says.
First of all, no one should ever tell a child, especially a black child, they could be a slave someday. This not only reduces the child to a state of worthlessness, it exalts the enslaver to a barbaric status, regardless of who the slaved or the enslavers are. After decades and centuries of telling our children that slavery was a crime against humanity and that they are worth more than free labor and physical abuse, this overeducated, half-wit comes behind all the blood and pain of our Black ancestors and freedom fighters and reverses the psychology.
Second, it would be logistically, humanly impossible. Humanity has advanced from the barbaric state of the dark ages of slavery into a more humane form of coexistence. Racist and racial hatred is a dying breed. That is why it is done covertly and not openly. Though most racist whites say they would love to enslave Black people, it would be very few who actually could. And for the rest of society, legal human slavery - as it was at the founding of this country - would not pass through Congress, the Senate, or by the President; and would definitely not make the ballot. It would not even get by Saturday Night Live without being laughed to hell.
Third, three-quarters of white Americans would not allow it; no other people of color would allow it because they would fear they would be next, and certainly not Black America. What idiot would think Black people would leave their homes, college dorms, or hard-worked jobs to work for free under the commands of some white boys? Most people do not even want to go to work at all, let alone work for free. Furthermore, the rest of the world would not stand for it. Some African nations would have all the reason to rise against America because they would fear they would be next. Islamic countries, South American countries, and maybe Asian countries would not stand by and allow America to enslave Blacks again, ever. There would be a very bloody, civil war in this country worse than the first one. By the time the second run of slavery did start, there would be no one left to enslave, except Tavis Smiley of course, because he is the type of Negro who would just assume do what massah say do.
Lastly, God would not allow it. He is the one who stopped it in the first place. "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9. Smiley evidently has no faith in God but instead places all his faith in man and the laws of their Constitution. There is man's law and there is God's law, no man has to submit to any laws that oppress and brutalize people. All men are free born under the laws of God and if they have to die under man's law, let them die unto God.
Ignore this brainless man Tavis Smiley. And do not be overeducated and think this man is some kind of mad genius using reverse psychology on the minds of whites. It is what it is; plain ole' stupidity, samboism, and the dying of the slave mentality. Time.com should have never published this crap-for-an-article and no other website should regurgitate this bull. His employer should fire him or better yet, not pay him for a year and chain him to a desk down in the boiler room. Maybe that will wake his Black-ass up. He should apologize to that student and make a public statement to the nation that maybe he was under the influence at the time.
