A bad diet leads to health problems for us and big money for the insurance and medical industries. From the time we sit our children at the table for their first taste of real food to the times throughout the day we binge on fast food and junk, our diet basically determines our economic futures.
Studies show that medical debt is the second leading cause of debt in America and as Black Americans we cannot afford to have high medical bills and bad health. We must be an example to our children as to how and what we eat. Below are some of the worse foods we can put into our bodies, so please try and refrain from them and adopt a new diet for you, your children, and your own future.
Fast foods (especially McDonald's happy meals)
Hot dogs and processed lunch meats
Boxed macaroni and cheese
Gummy bears and fruit snacks
Pop tarts and toaster pastries
Crackers and cookies
We must learn to make our children eat fresh vegetables (and discipline ourselves to do the same), and we must make it routine to cook real food for our families. Commercials today show mothers of families preparing processed foods and claiming a bucket of KFC is dinner and that cinnamon rolls are homemade.
We have dropped to a level of willful ignorance where it pertains to our food and have allowed corporations to dictate what is good for us. There are healthier options for eating and the sooner children learn to eat healthy, the better off they will be in adulthood. But if we show bad examples, they will copy our lifestyles.
High blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes are rampant in the Black community. Many believe that these things are hereditary but studies prove they are not. It is a matter of simple diet, regular physical activity, and will power. Please research for yourselves and learn to eat better, which will save you a ton on medical expenses and possible your life.
