In 2017, Afromerica will be 15 years-old. We began as a web directory for research and grew into a news and commentary think tank for the education and enlightenment of the masses of Black America.
In the beginning, we set out to prove that white racism and oppression of people of color was still pervasive in American society during a time when most of the country - including Black Americans - was convinced that we were living in a post-racist society.
The media narrative at the time consisted of reports and studies of "Black self-hatred," "negligent Black fathers," "dull Black intelligence and self-esteem," and the concept of a type of "sordid Black pathology." The idea was to break the confidence of the Black mind, spirit, and motivation.
Afromerica launched a campaign to rebuke the negative and fabricated lies and to rebuild and encourage Black America by exposing the hypocrisy of white propaganda and the passive, gullible tokenism of many Black leaders. Many of those leaders have either faded or been enlightened and more people can now see the hypocrisy and racism of white America clearer.
Our new mission is to set Black America on a course of liberation and to break free of the oppression and racism we experience. We will not achieve this by marches, protest or voting - which have proven ineffective - but through the art of individual and collective withdrawal. We will take America from the racist by the sheer might of cultural change.
